Kids, how about learning some old medieval crafts?

We invite you to Cittadella, a beautiful medieval walled town with a parapet walkway, perfectly preserved over centuries and centuries right up to the present time. The recently restored city wall offers a glorious return to the town’s origins and from the birds eye view you can have an easier understanding of the dynamics of medieval settlements and their military logistics.

This beautiful setting is where our workshops take place, a useful enhancement to our city tours. They involve you in person and enable you to experience an exciting journey back in time.

THE ART OF GOTHIC WRITING

In this course you will learn to write the alphabet using a quill and inkwell. Following the instructions of an expert, you will discover the features and the techniques of this ancient art.

LEATHER CRAFTING

In this workshop under the guidance of a specialist you will create step by step an artifact learning thereby some of the old techniques of working with leather.
On request this workshop can be done with jute instead of leather.

MOULDING WITH CLAY

In this workshop you will learn that this art dates back to ancient times. After an initial presentation about clay and its uses, you will create a small artifact and then experiment with different decoration techniques similar to those used to decorate the pieces exhibited in the archaeological museum of Cittadella.

LEARN HOW TO READ OLD MANUSCRIPTS

In this workshop you will be introduced to the world of old manuscripts and historic archives by an expert paleographer from Cittadella. You will analyse a manuscript and understand how by using these old texts it’s possible for a historian to reconstruct history
